Having Tea with Grandmother

Inheritance

We have tea in her small kitchen,
my grandmother and me.
Violets are blooming on the windowsills,
and snowbells cover the backyard.
She made her tiny, delicate biscuits
for my butter and sugar.
The tea, fragrant and warm,
was meant to slow us down,
inviting time to pause,
for conversation,
and listening,
as shy ones grew to know each other.
